Lightning: ONE Way To Prune A Tree

On Saturday, June 26, 2010, a severe thunder and lightning storm hit our backyard and cut off the top half of one of our beautiful 40′ maple trees. The wind and rain was so strong at one point the visibility was only about 10′.

I hear some people say they don’t like the weather here in Tennessee. We have a saying, “If you don’t like the weather, stick around for a few minutes (or hours).” It can change quite dramatically very quickly. Saturday was no exception. Continue reading Lightning: ONE Way To Prune A Tree

BURIED ALIVE: Controlling The Information Avalanche, Part I

The amount of information and communication channels available to us is increasing exponentially. We’re all getting buried alive with email, network news, cable news, internet news, radio, television (cable/satellite), blogs, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Google, PDA’s, texting, office memos, etc., etc.

What Amnesia Taught Me About Productivity (true story)

Imagine being knocked out or passing out and waking up in a strange house you’ve never seen before. It may be across town or in another state for all you know. You know who you are and you recognize your ‘significant other,’ but that’s about it.

You couldn’t tell anyone what street you’re on or how to get there. You don’t remember that you just moved into your home two months before, but your ‘significant other’ keeps insisting that you did. Nothing is looking familiar.

That is exactly what happened to me at about 6:00 PM on May 29, 2010. (click here for the extended version) Continue reading What Amnesia Taught Me About Productivity (true story)

The Principle of ICAN

I used to hate it when the bass player of my band would be packed up and on the road in less than 5 minutes and it would take me about 45 minutes before I was ready to leave. I call this “the drummer’s plight.” Continue reading The Principle of ICAN
